Composting

Composting results in a 50% decrease in the amount of materials Trican sends to the landfill. It also produces fantastic soil.

Trican Employees are to put all organic materials into the composter which is located beside the microwave. To help speed up the composting process, please ensure that your organic material is in small pieces.

The following organic materials go in the composter:

Important:

If your organic material has made contact with a substance that can not be composted, it must be placed in the garbage. For example, broccoli covered with cheese sauce.

• fruit and vegetable scraps

• tea bags

• egg shells

• coffee grounds & filters

• nut shells

• wood ash

• plant trimmings

• dry leaves

• straw

• wood chips/charcoal

• hair and fur

• old potting soil

• tissues 

Do NOT Put the Following into the Composter:

• pet manure or kitty litter

• meat, bones, fat

• dairy products

• oil or oily foods

• diseased/bug infested plants

• diapers or sanitary products

• barbecue ashes

• eggs

• fish and seafood

• cheese, meat or other sauces
